Sony SLT A55 flash and battery?
Does the Sony SLT A55 have a built in flash in it's body, or do we need to buy an external flash. If it has one in it's body, does it have hotshoe for attacthing external flash? Or if it does not support hotshoe, then will I be able to use external flash?
What about Canon EOS rebel T3i, is it the same in terms of flash (or) is it different from the A55?
And what battery does the SLT A55 use. It seems that the cam drains out battery so quick, so I might have to buy a couple of extra batteries and an extra charger?

Yes it has an in build flash with a rating about 12. That isn't allot but enough to light up some family members when making a picture inside or outside. And yes you can put on a bigger nice more powerful flash!
And the T3i will have a flash shoe to yes [Sony uses a different design flash shoe BOOO] and it seems to have even an inbuildt flash again expect guide number 12/13
Don't worry if you buy a camera a DSLR you get one battery with it and a charger. So don't worry usually something like 500 shots are to be able to be made with them to. Depending on if flash is used and how much you look at the LCD screen.
Right flash numbers, okay what do they mean?
A flash rating is how far the light of the flash can reach and be picked up by the camera in meters. BUT .. you gotta do math!
Lets play this game shall we
Guide number 12 and our lens is having an aperture of F4, see aperture or the size of the hole that lets light in obviously influences how much light gets in. How smaller that hole how less far the "flash" goes. This due to the flash if being used in certain modes limits the exposure times to very specific ones.
Lets begin
12 is the guide number F4 our used aperture meaning the flash goes off and the light can be picked up 3 meters ahead. Meaning everything within 3 meters will light up beyond it will stay dark. 3 meters is equal to around 9 feet!
12 / 4 = 3 *3 = 9
If we raise the aperture to get more detail to lets say 8 then
12 / 8 = 1,5 * 3 = 4,5 Feet
Ouch that did hurt!
But not all is lost playing with the ISO we can raise the sensitivity of the sensor and hence get flash light from further in. So ISO 400, is 2 stops more [damn you are learning allot of new words, I suggest to buy a book about DSLR photography.. so much to learn]
12 / 8 = 1,5 [insert added range due to ISO 400] * 2 * 3 = 9 Feet 
And we have our family and friends back in the shot.
So as you see a flash number says how strong the flash is. But its effect depends on factors like ISO and Aperture size! It takes a while to understand this 
And really if this would be your first DSLR, welcome to allot of learning Don't worry you don't have to do all this out of your head.
I shall keep it simple the flash on the camera is not to light up whole rooms! It is to light up the faces and bodies of the persons before you. It is a relative strong flash to be build in a camera [many compacts have a lousy 7 rating] so you can use the pop up flash to take a picture of your family in day light in the zoo, in the city .. without the background light making that your family look like shadow puppets
If you need more? THEN you buy a bigger flash. Weddings, Family Parties you know if the room gets bigger and more and more and more people are there.. then yes the 12 won't cut it anymore..
If you begin with DSLR's you don't yet have to buy an external flash. The in buildt ones are fine to learning and most basic situations. It is when the situation changes beyond that basic level and the rooms get bigger the groups get bigger... you might need better equipment.
